MnFHAC Goals
- To help Minnesota’s Congressional Delegation articulate their positions about affordable housing and homelessness policy and understand how federal affordable housing and homelessness programs impact their constituents.
- To engage tenants and other community leaders by identifying them as knowledgeable housing resources in their communities.
- To regularly define the most effective policy for Minnesota’s affordable housing and homelessness issues.
November Update: Both the House and Senate have passed legislation to fund HUD Housing programs above current funding levels. Differences in their legislative proposals need to be reconciled before December 18th, when a resolution that funds programs at current FY09 levels ends. (Legislation funding USDA Rural Housing Programs has already been signed by the President and funds programs at their FY09 levels.)
Overall, the House bill authorizes $1.2 billion more in HUD funding than the Senate bill and includes greater funding for all the programs we track except for Homeless Assistance Grants, which the Senate funds at a slightly higher level.
In welcome news, Congress recently addressed a shortfall public housing agencies were facing in their voucher programs that could have lead to 10,000 households losing their housing assistance. Congress allows public housing agencies to use up to $200 million in FY10 funding to avoid terminating vouchers.
